{Engagement} Tara+Travis, A Chattanooga Engagement Session

Thursday, November 18, 2010 | |

We met Tara and Travis at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee on a cool fall morning.  Tara and Travis looked amazing!!!  Nathan and I were bundled up in our scarves and gloves, and these two were walking around no coat and Tara in a skirt like it was August!  So, needless to say, we stayed in the sunshine until it warmed a bit.

We had a great time with Tara and Travis.  The are two down to earth people and love hanging outside.  After their Atlanta area wedding, they will be living in Chattanooga, where Travis is going to school.  Tara and Travis had a number of locations in town they wanted to hit up for their engagement session, so we took our time and covered all the hot spots.  I'll review our locations in case you're not familiar with the Chattanooga area.

Our first two locations were Coolidge Park and the Walnut Street Bridge.  Coolidge park is a cool downtown park in Chattanooga that's a perfect location for walks by the Tennessee River or a picnic on the lawn.  They have interactive fountains.  Coolidge is actually an early date spot for Nathan and I, too, so it was fun to revisit.  The Walnut Street Walking Bridge goes over Coolidge Park and Tara explained to us that it is one of the longest walking bridges in the world.

Then we headed to Point Park on Lookout Mountain.  It's one of the best overlooks in Chattanooga, and you can see the entire downtown from there.  It is an old fort, complete with neat stone structures and even canons!  We scheduled our day to be at Point Park at sunset (for the amazing lighting), but we were able to shoot with amazing lighting for the last hour and got to head back to the car early!

Here's a look at our fun for the day...

We started with a warm-up in the sunshine.

I loooove Tara in this warm, creamy photograph.

Remember the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge I was talking about?  It's the big blue thing in the background.  :)

Oh, and I forgot to mention the Riverboat.  It parks at Coolidge, and Tara told me that not only is there a restaurant on the Riverboat, but there are actual hotel rooms on it, too!!!

We did a lot of walking around the park.  There were so many different areas for us to shoot and so many cool features of the park that we just hung out and explored the area.

We took a minute for the happy couple to try out their smooching skills.

They were pretty good at it, but I think Tara got the giggles!

We planned on a November engagement session so we could get some fall color, and I think the yellow tree behind them = success!

Looooove this photo.  The happy couple look amazing! (of course!!) and the background is really cool and architectural.  And I love the color palette here, too!

I really like Travis's expression in this one.  I think he looks exactly like the 1980 version of the Ken Barbie Doll.

Travis had the idea to shoot under the bridge.  There were some cool industrial/architectural features here.

They were getting pretty good at the smooching by this point.

So.  Now is a great time to share that Tara and Travis should both get the Barbie Doll award.  Tara has super-long slender legs.  She's a runner in her spare time, and let me tell you!  So, put those two things together (long legs and running) and Tara is a fast walker!  She's got places to go!

See the ball in the photograph below?  If you look closely, you'll see that it's actually in mid-air (no shadow).

See the bird?!?

I love the dynamic of this photograph.

Tara and Travis had a couple of walking buddies on the bridge (see the birds?).

Do you see that!!?!  There's NO ONE on the bridge.  Amazing.  This thing is always busy, especially on the weekends.

And we moved on to Point Park.  I told you it had canons!

Travis and Tara have such genuine expressions.  :)

This photograph has a soft blur, which I think adds to the emotion.

Tara and Travis do a lot of hiking, so they didn't think twice about hopping up on these boulders.

It was a gorgeous overlook area.

We had lots of laughs together!

Doesn't Tara have cute dimples?!

Was it cold?  Yes!  Was it windy?  Um...Yes!!  Were we popsicles?  DEFINITELY!

Cool silhouettes and amazing views make for awesome photographs.

How do you not just love photographs like this?  Sometimes you can capture the essence of a relationship with no facial expression at all.

Awww....

After editing this photograph, I just fell in love with Tara's shoes.

Sigh.....

Another essence of their relationship.  Genuine.

A canon photo for Travis.  :)

They headed up the hill for some cool running photographs.

:)

Amazing clothing choices!  Not only were they classic and colorful, but they perfectly matched the sky and fall color.  Crazy cool.

Aww....They were looking so comfortable.

Tara has a gorgeous ring.

Travis was looking really tough and totally working it!

This might be one of my favorites of the session.  Travis is looking cool and tough.  Tara is gorgeous, with amazing lighting on her beautiful face.  The trees in the background even look watercolored in.  :)  I love photography.

Here's the slideshow with almost twice as may photos from their session:
